COURSE DESCRIPTION

This online course, “Diving Into Enhanced Barrier Precautions for Nursing Facilities,” is designed for Infection Preventionists, LTC Facility Administrators, and Directors of Nursing to help you implement the latest CMS and CDC guidelines on Enhanced Barrier Precautions (EBP). Led by Annie Nutt, MPH, CIC, FAPIC—an experienced infection preventionist and epidemiologist— this course will help you define and distinguish between standard precautions, contact precautions, and EBP, while sharing best practices for implementing EBP. It will equip long-term care nurses and leaders with the knowledge and tools needed to address current practice gaps in understanding and applying EBP to prevent the spread of multidrug-resistant organisms (MDROs). By viewing this structured 1-hour video-recorded session featuring evidence-based content, practical implementation strategies, and a Q&A segment, participants will gain actionable insights to ensure safer environments for residents and staff alike.

The speaker for this webinar is Annie Nutt, MPH, CIC, FAPIC.

Annie has more than 12 years of experience in infection prevention and epidemiology. She began her career as an Infection Preventionist for hospitals in the Houston and East Texas areas. She then served as a Healthcare-Associated Infection (HAI) Epidemiologist at the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS), where she worked to prevent and investigate HAI outbreaks across a 35-county region.

Annie has conducted over 100 onsite infection control assessments (ICARs) in multiple healthcare settings including hospitals, nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and dialysis clinics. She played a managing role in the DSHS Nursing Home Strike Team project which connected Infection Preventionists with long-term care facilities across the state who needed guidance on COVID-19 outbreak response and prevention.

Annie was named a Fellow of the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (FAPIC) in 2022 and has been a member of APIC for 10 years. Currently, she is working as an independent consultant, leveraging her extensive experience to help healthcare facilities meet their infection prevention goals.
