COURSE DESCRIPTION
This activity provides a comprehensive overview of Congenital Heart Disease (CHD) across the lifespan, emphasizing its prevalence, lifelong impact, and evolving care needs from infancy through adulthood. Participants will review the underlying physiology of common congenital heart conditions and apply this knowledge to recognize typical clinical presentations at different life stages. The course also explores long-term complications and outcomes associated with CHD, equipping nurses with the knowledge needed to support early recognition, ongoing management, and improved patient outcomes in diverse clinical settings.

MEET YOUR INSTRUCTOR
The presenter for this course is Amanda Alvarado, DNP, CPNP-AC, a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Texas at Austin School of Nursing and Program Director of the Acute Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Program. She maintains an active clinical practice with the congenital heart surgery team at Dell Children’s Medical Center and the Texas Center for Pediatric and Congenital Heart Disease, caring for infants, children, and adults with complex congenital heart disease. Dr. Alvarado’s clinical, educational, and scholarly interests include pediatric and congenital cardiac critical care, point-of-care ultrasound, competency-based education, and innovative approaches to healthcare simulation and workforce development. She is passionate about preparing the next generation of pediatric nurse practitioners to provide evidence-based, high-quality care for children with congenital and acquired heart disease.

Requirements for Successful Completion: To receive contact hours for this continuing education activity, the participant must register, complete the entire module, score at least 80% on the post-test, and complete and submit the evaluation form. Once successful completion has been verified, a "Certificate of Successful Completion" will be awarded for 1.5 contact hours.
